English text recognition. You review every image before downloading.

Image contents stay in this tab and are not saved by the tool. The website downloads its reader files to your device. Reader licenses

Use it here or in your AI chat. The tool above creates a redacted PNG you can download and share anywhere. Screenshot redaction is also included in extension build 0.5.18; that extension update has not yet been published to the Chrome Web Store.

Suggested text redactions

Local text recognition finds readable English text. Existing detection rules suggest areas containing details such as emails and phone numbers.

Manually redact any area

Drag a box over text, a photo, a logo, or any other part of the image. You can also enter the box position and size using the keyboard.

Processed on your device

The website downloads its text reader to your device; the extension bundles it. Your screenshot is not sent to a remote OCR service for scanning.

Your review comes first

From screenshot to a redacted copy.

  1. 01
    Paste or choose an image

Paste, drop, or select a PNG, JPEG, or WebP screenshot in the tool above. Your browser reads the text locally.

  2. 02
    Check the whole preview

Review the suggested black boxes. Uncheck suggestions you do not need, draw extra boxes, move or resize individual boxes, zoom in, or undo and redo your edits. Anything outside the selected areas remains visible.

  3. 03
Copy or download the redacted PNG

The tool creates a new PNG with solid black pixels in the selected areas. Copy the image directly into another app, or download it. If your browser blocks image copying, download is still available. In the extension, Redact & attach adds it directly to your AI draft.

What happens to the image

The covered pixels are replaced.

The exported image contains black pixels where the selected details used to be. These are not removable layers or visual overlays. The copy gets a generic filename, and the original file’s metadata is not copied into it.

Your original screenshot stays unchanged. Screenshot redactions are permanent in the attached copy. Unlike text placeholders, they cannot be restored in the AI answer.

You control the output. Copy and download are available only when at least one redaction is enabled. Clear image removes the current image from the tool. A failed scan offers an explicit manual review, never an automatic download of the original.

Before sharing

Recognition helps. Your review matters.

Supported images are PNG, JPEG, and WebP, up to 10 MB and 12 megapixels. Recognition is designed for readable English text and can miss details. No findings does not mean an image is safe to share.

Faces, logos, handwriting, and QR codes are not automatically protected by this feature. You can cover them manually. This does not add OCR for scanned PDFs.

Remaining context can still reveal sensitive information. The extension runs inside the AI website; local scanning is not a guarantee that the site cannot access original content. Review the entire image and use tools permitted by your organization. Read the processing boundaries.
